This laboratory, under the direction of Dr. D. Drescher, encompasses approximately 2,000 square feet in the Lande Medical Research building. It consists of 4 main sections: Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Electrophysiology, and Morphology. This lab performs basic research in auditory/vestibular biochemistry, molecular biology, and neuropharmocology.
Tinnitus and Auditory Neuroscience
This laboratory, located in the Lande Medical Research building, is under the direction of Dr. J.S. Zhang. This lab performs research in understanding mechanisms underlying tinnitus and electrical supression of tinnitus, and in cochlear and auditory brainstem implants. The research approaches include multichannel electrical/acoustic stimulation, multichannel electrophysiology at single- and multi-unit levels, behavioral testing of tinnitus, histology, neurochemistry, neuropharmacology, confocal microscopy, functional imaging with MEG, MEMRI and fMR.
Stem Cell Research
This new laboratory under the direction of Dr. Zhengqing Hu explores the regeneration of cochlear components and hearing using stem cell implantation. The focus is on inner ear developmental biology, stem cell biology and translational research in the inner ear. Located in the Lande Medical Research building, the lab performs research in cell culture, cell biology, molecular biology, immunocytochemistry, advanced microscopy, inner ear transplantation, and functional evaluation of hearing.
Head and Neck Cancer
This laboratory is located on the 4th floor of the Prentis Building of the Karmanos Cancer Institute under the co-direction of Dr. Ho-Sheng Lin. This lab includes 1,000 square feet with all needed equipment and core facilities to perform cutting-edge cancer research. Additional laboratory space is available in the 4th floor of the DMC to carry on proteomic research.
