Pediatric Otolaryngology
The Pediatric Otolaryngology service is a division of otolaryngology dedicated to the management of ear, nose, and throat problems in infants and children. Pediatric otolaryngologists manage acute and chronic sinus disease, acute and chronic ear disease, and hearing loss in infants and children. This specialty also deals with management of the pediatric airway including surgical reconstruction, congenital head and neck masses, and ear nose and throat problems in syndromic children. This division employs cutting edge surgical techniques which include plasma devices for management of tonsillar hypertrophy, laser supraglottaplasty, endobronchial laser surgery, and image guided techniques in the management of congenital ear and nasal problems.
Pediatric otolaryngologists have additional training to deal with acute and chronic sinus disease, acute and chronic ear disease, and hearing loss in infants and children. This specialty also deals with management of the pediatric airway including surgical reconstruction, congenital head and neck masses, and ear nose and throat problems in syndromic children.
This clinical division provides resident training and participates in research focusing on acute and chronic ear and sinus infections in infants and children. Drs. Gonik and Siegel head the Multidisciplinary Pediatric Aerodigestive Program at Childrens Hospital of Michigan, which is staffed with faculty from pediatric otolaryngology, gastroenterology, pulmonology and speech therapy.
