Head and Neck Surgery
The Head and Neck Surgery service is established to diagnose and treat tumors of the head and neck region. Physicians within this service are Board-Certified Otolaryngologists who have years of experience in the management and rehabilittion of the head and neck cancer patient. Working with medical oncologists and radiation oncologists, these physicians evaluate new patients, review the reports and tests, and discuss the diagnosis and treatment at a Karmanos or Beaumont-Dearborn Tumor Board. New methods, including endoscopic and robotic approaches are used to minimize morbidity of surgical intervention. Many of these patients will be evaluated and treated at Karmanos or one of the affiliated institutions.
The clinical service has opportunity for resident education and fellowship training. Staff physicians serve on the Wayne State University faculty, participate in clinical trials, and conduct basic and translational research on the detection of head and neck cancer.
This laboratory is located on the 4th floor of the Prentis Building of the Karmanos Cancer Institute under the co-direction of Dr. Ho-Sheng Lin. This lab includes 1,000 square feet with all needed equipment and core facilities to perform cutting-edge cancer research. Additional laboratory space is available in the 4th floor of the DMC to carry on proteomic research.
