Former Otolaryngology resident Sagar Patel, M.D., wins 2017-2018 Ben Shuster Memorial Research Award
Former Wayne State School of Medicine Otolaryngology resident Sagar Patel MD was award the 2017-2018 Ben Shuster Memorial Research Award for best fellowship research paper. Dr. Patel graduated from his Wayne State University residency in 2016 then completed a one year American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship in Houston, TX. He is the founder of Sagar Patel Aesthetics in Beverly Hills, CA.
His study was published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery in January 2018 and was titled "Opioid Use by Patients After Rhinoplasty." Given the importance of the federally declared opioid epidemic, Dr. Patel's work has laid out a foundation for the role surgeons can play in battling the epidemic.
